The Benefits of Pilates
Pilates is a low impact form of exercise that focuses on core strength to develop functional and sustainable movement patterns throughout the body, creating an environment of dynamic stability (being able to stabilise one area and move another). It can be tailored to any individual and has a wealth of benefits including increasing strength, mobility and flexibility for overall fitness and wellbeing. This challenging low impact exercise method balances strength with mobility, aligns the body, fine tunes movement patterns, and strengthens the deeper muscles of the core, allowing you to move and breath through your daily activities with more freedom and power and less pain. Consistent Pilates training improves cognitive functioning by developing new neuron development, increasing blood flow to the brain, increasing neurotransmitters, and longevity of neurons responsible for learning, memory, and executive thinking. Pilates has tremendous benefits and is suitable for everyone regardless of their fitness level, age, size or any other factor. Incorporating Pilates into a training regime can greatly support and enhance any endevour you take on. Whether you are seeking to feel better, tone up, build muscle mass and bone density, or cross train, Pilates can positively affect your quality of life. Any exercise releases endorphins which will boost mood, but Pilates shows a reduction in anxiety, fatigue, and depressive symptoms, and a release of negative thought patterns.

Pilates & Rehabilitation/Injury Prevention
A regular Pilates practice is key to preventing injury by strengthening key muscle groups such as gluteals, hamstrings, abdominals, and improving shoulder stability. Pilates can be tailored to develop strength and flexibility in a manner that is required for any specific injury, or pathology. Pilates Co-ordinates movement and breath together to work the smaller and deeper stabilising muscles of the body and prime movers. It can help prevent previous recurring injuries by improving your body's resistance to any musculoskeletal predisposition. Pilates exercises focus on aligning the entire body's overall structure to provide support for its joints. The low impact exercises create optimal strength through muscle balance and fine tuning neuromuscular patterns. Pilates balances the muscles of the body so that they are neither loose or weak, nor tight and rigid. Muscles too loose and weak or too tight and rigid can make the body more susceptible to injury. Balancing the body by strengthening muscles, mobilising what's rigid, and lengthening tight areas, enables the body to react quicker to movement and prevent injury. So whether you are looking for a way to improve and manage pain, balance strength and flexibility deficits, provide post-surgical rehabilitation, manage work-related pain or injury, or sport and athletic injuries, Pilates can be tailored to meet your specific needs.

Pilates & The Core - It's so much More
All movement stems from the core, but what is the core? The core refers to all the surrounding muscles of the stomach and the back that when strengthened and pliable, support and stabilise the body. Core strength is a key factor in decreasing back and hip pain, decreasing pelvic floor dysfunction, and generating explosive movement referred to as the "powerhouse". Pilates improves core strength and function by targeting the deeper abdominal muscles and the pelvic floor to both contract and release - a sign of strength. These muscles work like a brace to lift and support the organs and protect and stabilise the back. Core strength is the key to good posture. A sedentary lifestyle, sitting at a desk for extended periods of time, or driving a car can all influence the control we have in our upper body posture, neck and shoulders. Poor posture is the result of weak imbalanced muscles, and can lead to headaches, shoulder or back pain. Pilates focuses on full body alignment, creating an ideal range of motion at the joints, and a balance of all opposing muscles. Targeted exercises improve posture by bringing awareness to the body's alignment and strengthening neglected postural muscles, resulting in postural endurance and providing the body with the tools to prevent neck and lower back injuries. Good posture means being able to sit and stand tall with ease.

Pilates and Pregnancy
Modified Pilates supports an ever-changing body throughout pregnancy. It alleviates the pressure from a growing baby with its' target on the muscles of the glutes, core, and pelvic floor. Specific pre-natal Pilates exercises can aid with managing diastasis recti (separation of the abdominals) and its recovery post-partum. Prenatal Pilates, through its focus on the breath, body awareness and strengthening benefits, can prepare you mentally and physically for labor and birth.

Barre-lates
Barreless-corelates is a class designed to bring you all the fun and intensity of a traditional barre class (without the barre), combined with core focused Pilates movement. It includes all the traditional moves you would expect of a barre class with an emphasis on the principles of Pilates. Traditional Pilates teaches all the principles of functional movement, and in this class we take those principles off the mat and apply them in a dynamic environment. The class begins with a barre based cardio-yoga warm up to get the heart rate up and introduce you to a variety of different movements that are unique to this type of class. Its a great way for beginners to explore the movement and learn some of the terms that are used in traditional barre classes. We then use those movements and combine them with props such as weights and bands for a fun strength based workout where we work the upper body whilst we continue to keep the lower body moving. You will finish your class on the mat focusing on core exercises with a cardio focus in a meduim intensity workout using both body weight training and a variety of Pilates equipment to take your Pilates to a whole new level. This class is suitable for all levels and all ages and will bring you all the benefits of Pilates in a fun and energetic environment.
